Joan Winter Artist Statement:
I am a painter. My strongest influences are the abstract-expressionist and the symbolist painters. My artistic development reflects both academic and self-training. I paint mostly in my studio, from life, direct-observation, fantasy, and photographs using oil, watercolor or acrylic. I have been painting for over 30 years and paint in several styles. Many times I combine more than one style in the same painting. I choose my style by my response to the subject which I am painting and to how I want to project that subject. Most of the time my choice of style is deliberate.
